Why you need to listen to Lucius
Remember when it was acceptable seriously cool to dress exactly like your best friend? While many of us are thanking God that phase ended along with junior high, the lead singers of the band Lucius are bringing it back--in the chicest way possible.
Two best friends. Two identical wardrobes. One insane sound. That is Brooklyn-based Lucius.
Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig (backed by three male band members who have decided not to wear matching getups) have some of the most jaw-dropping vocals we’ve heard in a long time. At first listen, you’ll think that it’s one voice--one crisp, lilting voice. But after seeing Lucius perform at City Winery, we quickly realized that two charismatic and retro-inspired performers are much better than one.
Wolfe and Laessig met at Berklee College of Music (Imagine Dragons are among the alums) and hit it off just as any best friends would--over beers and the Beatles. They recently launched their first album, Wildewoman, the upbeat “Hey, Doreen” being one of our favorites on the record. But their rich voices really shine through in the more lullaby-esque tunes like “Go Home” and “Until We Get There.”
The band isn’t scheduled to be back in NYC until June, but if you download the album now, you’ll know all the words by then.
