The Flatiron Pro Shop location hosts a range of classes for coffee enthusiasts who might want to know what the hell “cupping” means but don’t necessarily aspire to run a milk steamer professionally.

You can start from scratch at the Home Brewing for Beginners class ($32; February 26), which teaches a basic overview of different brewing techniques and how the coffee taste (or “cup profile”) varies for each. Or you can dive right into individual methods like the pour over ($50; March 5), which is when you manually add hot water to grounds in an open coffee filter and control the strength at will.

If it’s latte art you’re after, be sure to sign up for the Milk 1 and Milk 2 lessons ($60 each; March 20 and March 27, respectively), in which you’ll learn the science behind creating foam and, of course, the art of doodling in your cappuccino.
