Such a Sucker
An artisanal candy shop opens in Park Slope
While you?re not one to turn down a Snickers bar (snack-sized or jumbo), your childlike excitement for drugstore candy has sort of taken a backseat to more sophisticated treats like, say, booze-infused hand-spun ice cream.
Here to delight that more ?mature? palate is the new Brooklyn confectioner Bit O? Sweet.
The quaint Park Slope shop is currently serving up nostalgic gems (mmm, Lemon Drops) plus some seriously decadent sweets like whiskey brown-butter popcorn and chai-flavored caramels.
Glass jars line the walls (à la a kiddie candy store), but these are chock-full of everything from all-natural licorice to chocolate covered-almonds masked as martini olives. Baked goods are also on hand--we?re partial to the homemade Ring Dings--and there are plenty of locally sourced hostess gifts like Three Little Figs jam.
After much deliberation, we decided that a box of Amella?s Vegan caramels would make a great gift for our sister-in-law and that the office might appreciate a jar of peppermint malt balls...but not before we stocked up on some Vosges truffles for ourselves.
