With Mile End, Kutsher’s and even a new Russ & Daughters on the horizon, New York’s Jewish food scene hasn’t been so hot since herring peddlers started docking at Ellis Island. But everyone knows the heart of Jewish food has never been in a restaurant--it’s in the home.

And even better if it’s in someone else’s home, like the new Pop-Up Shabbat.

Created by Danya Cheskis-Gold, an ex-tech exec and enthusiastic home cook, Pop-Up Shabbat is a Friday night supper-club series (and pseudo house party) for yentas.

But don’t worry, non-tribe members--you’re welcome, too. Pop-Up Shabbat is meant to foster community (matchmaking welcome, folks, to the delight of your bubbe) while remaining light on religion. Just be prepared for a few Shabbat songs and a host of bat mitzvah stories.

As for the food, you won’t find any dry brisket here. Cheskis-Gold has partnered with local vendors like the Gefilteria and Fleisher’s butcher to create a truly artisanal menu.

For the second event, slated for November 1, she’s planning a Jewish-deli-soul-food mash-up, which promises pastrami collard greens, kugel mac and cheese and sweet potato pie with a macaroon crust.

Our prayers are focused on just one thing: getting tickets.
