An app for restaurant sanitation grades
This might sound familiar: You and the crew are reminiscing about all the holes-in-the-wall you used to hit up in your early 20s. You decide to relive the good old days, start drooling over all the dim sum you’re about to devour, walk up to the door...and are hit with the glaring C.
If this is you, then get in on the app Eatify.
It couldn’t be easier: Just search the restaurant in question (we decided to give Momofuku a spin), and a big splashy letter grade pops up for quick reference. (Thank God our beloved pork-belly ramen got an A.)
For the particularly nosy and/or phobic, swipe from bottom to top and see a bulleted list of the actual violations per report. Frequent offenses usually include the run-of-the-mill improper freezer temperature. But even with A-grade restaurants, you may notice repeat mentions of, gulp, vermin. Trust the city’s system as you will.
We do wish the app could sort restaurants by grade. (“Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the C spots around the city?” she asks as she applies hand sanitizer.) But Eatify is what it is: no bells and whistles, just straight facts at your fingertips--and possibly more addictive than Candy Crush.
