Drybar makes waves on the East Coast
Alli Webb revolutionized L.A. hair with Drybar, her blowout-only salon where styling is just $40 regardless of length or texture. (Curly-haired girls, rejoice.)
The stylist recently brought her talents to the East Coast in the form of a gleaming Flatiron salon. The decor evokes an Upper East Side townhouse with antique mirrors, golden chandeliers and vases of fresh flowers, but the setup is totally cutting-edge.
We were escorted to a marble bar topped with trays of Moroccan Oil, TIGI and L'Oréal products and given a "cocktail menu" of options. We decided on a combination of the Cosmopolitan, a loose-curl do, and the Mai Tai, which yields beachy waves.
After getting shampooed in a private washing room, our stylist turned up the heat. Our strands were dried, smoothed and given just enough bounce in under 30 minutes. (We even got some extra volume with a curling iron, free of charge.)
Blowout junkies will love Drybar's genius monthly membership plans. The Barfly ($140) gets you four blowouts, two soothing scalp massages and 10 percent off styling products. Or you can buy "Bar Tabs," packs of 3, 6 or 12 blowouts that never expire ($115 to $420).
