Bar Oppenheimer
Not your average watering hole.

Among the many cultural perks of living in this city, gallery hopping (OK, white-wine hopping) under the High Line ranks as one of our favorites. But now you can actually order a cocktail inside an art installation itself.

Introducing Bar Oppenheimer.

The pop-up bar (which is open for another month inside the Hôtel Americano) plays up dimension-bending, black-and-white graphics in a small space, courtesy of German artist Tobias Rehberger. And it’s a serious trip.

While there’s no set cocktail list, we followed the bartender’s recommendation of his signature drink, the Skywalker, a refreshing mix of Champagne, gin, pineapple and lemon. But to avoid any potential alcohol-meets-optical-illusion disasters, follow our recommendation of ordering some grub from the main restaurant. (The avocado and kale salad is amazing, but you can never go wrong with a good old-fashioned slab of burrata and toast.)

Make plans to hit up the space before it closes on July 14. (The post-happy-hour, pre-night-owl timing of 8 or 9 p.m. seemed best.) Just don’t be surprised if you hold all other art--and, well, drinking--events to this standard from here on out.
