Lush, old-school spots for summer lazing
We?re as over anything Gatsby-themed as you are. Yet feather headbands aside, there?s no denying the bliss of a lazy afternoon spent sipping a Pimm?s Cup and listening to jazz in a garden. Here are two of our favorite outdoor spots to do just that.
Gallow Green Now that the impeccably styled rooftop bar above Sleep No More (complete with railroad tracks running through) is in its first full summer, it should be a bit easier to score reservations, which are required. Our advice: Snag a late-afternoon time slot, order a sparkling punch bowl for the table and bask in exactly why this city is so awesome. 542 W. 27th St. (between 10th and 11th aves.); 212-564-1662 or mckittrickhotel.com/gallowgreen
Maison Premiere Say what you will about Williamsburg, but a French Quarter-inspired oyster bar with old-school cocktails (we?re talking absinthe in abundance and an entire section of the menu dedicated to juleps) is worth any trip on the L. The back patio?s foliage-covered trellises are just one of the many reasons it?s the chicest spot east of the Navy Yard. 298 Bedford Ave. (between S. First and Grand sts.), Brooklyn; 347-335-0446 or maisonpremiere.com
