Running isn't exactly a team sport, but meeting up with a buddy--or 50--can make the miles fly by. Now a bunch of fantastic group runs are making it easier than ever to hit the pavement.
Run like a girl? Great! Join up with the New York Running Company, which offers free, women-only runs every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Stash your stuff at the Columbus Circle store and get ready to roll. But be warned: These are some speedy ladies, averaging a nine-minute-mile pace and faster.
If the thought of looping around Central Park once more makes you dizzy, check out Prettygirl City Tours, which leave from Times Square daily (Sunday through Friday at 10 a.m. and Saturdays at 3 p.m.) for a one- to two-hour jaunt around the city--all for a monetary donation of your choice. Back-of-the-packers are welcome; this group usually rolls at a leisurely, run-walk pace.
Since the best part of running is always the post-workout meal, we're thrilled to see that City Running Tours has factored that in. On Sundays, take a five-mile, $30 tour of a different Manhattan neighborhood (at about a ten-minute-mile pace), then rehydrate and replenish with group brunch at a nearby restaurant.
