Local bikes with major style
If we had our way, New York would be a little bit more like Amsterdam. By which we mean: handlebars, helmets and pedalers galore. (What were you thinking?)
Just-launched commuter-bike company, Brooklyn Cruiser, makes this idea awfully appealing, offering cycles (one for each gender, with more on the way) that perfectly blend style, function and comfort.
The Lady's City Bike ($500)--which comes in either black or tangerine, with cream-colored wheels--is so gorgeous, we want to take it home and mount it on a wall. That said, it's definitely not just for show. The ergonomic grips and dual-coil leather saddle make for comfy traveling, and Brooklyn Cruiser's signature two-speed kick shift hub allows you to quickly change gears mid-ride (simply by pedaling slightly backward) without any ugly cables or hand gears mucking up the sleek design.
Though the Brooklyn-based company is happy to deliver anywhere in Manhattan (for a $75 fee), you can also test ride and purchase in person at Park Slope's 718 Cyclery or every weekend at the "Smorgasburg" Williamsburg food fest. This Saturday, in fact, everyone who tries the bike will be entered to win a free set of wheels.
You'll be the envy of everyone in the bike lane.
