We can't wait to hit up Phoenicia's new low-key but unbelievably chic hotel, Graham & Co., which just opened last summer and has a pool, free bikes, bonfires and movies on the lawn. (80 Route 214, Phoenicia)
After virtually jetting out east last week, our sights are now set a little higher--literally. Catskills, we’re coming for you.
Where to stay This sleepy, sprawling mountain region is brimming with gorgeous, rustic homes, perfect for curling up with a good book and a great view. Rent one by the night, week or month on go-to sites like HomeAway and Airbnb. (How unbelievable is this modern barn?) Or if a more inclusive resort experience is your speed, check out the Emerson up by Woodstock or the lakeside Mohonk Mountain House near New Paltz, which both have dining, activities and a spa on-site. For an experience that straddles the cabin and hotel feel, we’ve heard amazing things about the new vintage-inspired motel the Graham & Co. in Phoenicia.
What to get excited about Although a trip upstate is ideally spent in seclusion (hiking is a must), there are also some great big-name attractions, like Bethel Woods Center for the Arts (located on the 1969 Woodstock festival grounds). Plan weekends around major acts like Dave Matthews Band, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and Natalie Merchant with the Hudson Valley Philharmonic in July, and Blake Shelton and Yo-Yo Ma in August. But don’t head back to Manhattan without a slice of pie at the delightfully retro (and recently renovated) Phoenicia Diner on Route 28.
