No matter how much J.Crew currently occupies your closet, there?s no escaping its highly influential masculine-meets-feminine styling. And behind all those chambray shirts and lace skirts was one woman.
Nope, we?re not talking Jenna Lyons. Meet Marissa Webb.
As head of womenswear and accessories design at the beloved retailer, she was responsible for creating the dressy tomboy aesthetic the world has come to emulate. Now the New York-based F.I.T. alum has gone solo, debuting her namesake, upscale line in stores this spring.
Keeping the menswear-inspired edge, Webb?s first collection features a range of silk chiffon blouses (starting at $425), sharp-shouldered blazers ($795) and skinny moto pants (starting at $398). Our personal favorite look is sleek and modern yet breezy and wearable: a graphic-printed pencil skirt ($595).
Much of the line is currently available at Barneys (660 Madison Ave.) and Steven Alan (various locations), but Webb will soon launch an online shop to make finding individual pieces all that much easier.
Whether you?re investing in this season or next, Webb is definitely a powerhouse name to know.
