The High Line’s first open-air eatery
If you haven't already checked out the High Line's Section Two (and even if you have), there's a new reason for venturing to 10th Avenue: The Porch is the first open-air bar and café actually located on the elevated park.
A collaboration between a Chelsea Market favorite, The Green Table, and Friends of the Highline, The Porch serves up locally-sourced beer, wine and farm-fresh food...not to mention amazing views of the Hudson and entire city.
On our recent visit, we lingered in the (blissful) shade--the café is set up like a casual patio just to the side of an overpass--with cucumbers and herb butter on miche bread ($7) and a glass of freshly brewed hibiscus iced tea ($3). But we were also tempted by the thoughtful selection of on-tap beers, wines and creative bar food like cheddar-chutney sandwiches ($7) and tomato-harissa spread ($6).
Since The Porch doesn't take reservations (or credit cards), you might have to take your food to-go on crowded summer afternoons. But considering the loveliness of the on-high surroundings, we'd be perfectly happy to munch and walk.
The Porch on the Highline (open noon to 10 p.m. daily), West 15th St. at 10th Ave.; 212-741-6623 or thehighline.org
