You may be a New York expert, but if you ever find yourself looking for the closest dry cleaner or Hale and Hearty within walking distance, we've got a great new resource for you to try: CityMaps' free, interactive block-by-block grids.

Upon entering the website, you'll be plunked down on a Midtown map. Zoom around to find your desired Manhattan or Brooklyn location--or select a neighborhood from the drop-down list. Each block is populated with the names of all the stores, restaurants, banks, etc. that are found there, though you can refine your searches by, say, "nightlife" or "hotels."

Our favorite part, however, is CityMaps' intelligent integration with other web platforms. Click on any establishment for contact info, reviews, menus and the like. Scroll over movie theaters for showtimes. Click businesses' RSS and Twitter feeds for up-to-the-second specials. We particularly like that you can filter searches by "OpenTable Restaurants" to see nearby food-spots offering online reservations (which you can, in turn, make with one click).

The CityMaps smarties have many forthcoming improvements (like more cities and a handy mobile app), but we're already hooked.
