Gorgeous handbags from recycled leather
Belinda Pasqua started doing her part for the planet at a young age, by eating her family's homegrown produce in her native Australia. As an adult, she's merged her passion for preserving the environment with her talent for design with The Sway, her dazzling line of handcrafted, leather handbags.
Pasqua, now based in New York, sources her material from tanneries in Pakistan, where she employs local craftswomen to collect excess leather. The scraps are meticulously transformed into edgy-yet-refined bags, with pretty, recycled cotton lining inspired by aboriginal art.
We're bowled over by the mosaic-like craftsmanship in Pasqua's pieces, from the matchstick slices in the cognac-colored Augustine wristlet ($140) and navy Bax clutch ($295), to the quilted triangle patchwork in the onyx Evi messenger bag ($295) and Iluka carry-all ($350).
The most special item, though, is the intricate, double-zipper-fringed camera pouch ($295). If Coco Chanel were alive, she'd carry her Nikon in it.
Your friends will be green with envy.
