Even if it?s simply to window-shop and dream of antique chandeliers and reclaimed-wood dining tables, ABC Carpet & Home is easily one of our favorite stores in the city. (Okay, that?s an understatement: We really just want to live in it.)
And now the 115-year-old institution is expanding beyond its signature rugs and renowned global decor to the exciting world of fashion. Embody at ABC, the new ready-to-wear boutique on the mezzanine level, follows the same principles as the rest of the store: responsible, sustainable, internationally inspired and simply gorgeous.
A well-edited selection of vintage pieces are paired with current eco-friendly designs from ethical lines like Libertine, Loomstate, M. Patmos and Urban Zen (Donna Karan?s philanthropic collection). Also rotating in the mix will be the annual winners of the CFDA/Lexus Eco-Design Challenge, in which up-and-coming designers submit proposals for environmentally conscious clothing or accessories made using sustainable materials. This year?s three victors on display are artisan jewelers Melissa Joy Manning and Pamela Love and former lingerie (now ready-to-wear) designer Victoria Bartlett of VPL.
Impeccably presented with industrial elements in the Bohemian space, the new fashion collective previews a bright future for the already landmark location.
