In the wake of our subway-less existence this week, we stumbled across an artful way to show our respect for this great city: Metro Card Collages by Nina Boesch.
An artist trained at the Rhode Island School of Design, Boesch collects discarded Metro cards, slices them up and creates incredibly detailed mosaics to hang in your home. New York-centric subjects include everything from a Brooklyn Bridge landscape and a water-tower-filled skyline to a Greek coffee cup motif and a Woody Allen portrait. We?re obsessed with pretty much every piece (starting at $250), but the minimalist in us really wants a typography work, like the names of the five boroughs spelled out in eye-exam style.
Since Boesch has been on the underground arts scene for a little while (having displayed works in local hot spots like The Bean coffee shop in the East Village), many of her originals have sold out, but you can easily contact her through the site to commission a similar work and receive it a few weeks later.
Now, if the trains could just start running again...
