A new seaplane gets you to the Hamptons in record time
The dog days of summer are swiftly descending, which can only mean one thing: It's time to escape the city. But while the Hamptons are lovely, the Long Island Expressway is anything but. When the car just won't do, check out StndAIR, the Standard Hotel's ingenious new eight-seat seaplane that takes off from the East River and has you sitting poolside in less than an hour.
StndAIR's regularly scheduled flights leave every 45 minutes from the East 23rd Street New York Skyports Marina on Thursday and Friday afternoons, and land at East Hampton Airport and Shelter Island's Crescent Beach (with return trips Sunday evenings and Monday mornings).
At a max fare of $495 each way, tickets aren't cheap, but there are bargains to be had: Flexible travelers can get early off-peak seats for as little as $30, with prices increasing incrementally as departure times get closer.
If the Hamptons aren't your style, or if you're looking to fly out a full dinner party's worth of guests, StndAIR also offers private charters to Montauk, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Provincetown and other East Coast locations within a 300-mile radius of New York, ranging from $2,975 to $5,575.
We're ready for takeoff.
