1960s chic comes to Madison Avenue
We love any excuse to throw on a fancy frock, and no one does a better take on it than 60s-esque (yet thoroughly modern) Milly by Michelle Smith. Just in time for garden parties and trips to the Hamptons, the brand debuted its first U.S. boutique on the Upper East Side yesterday.
Smith launched Milly in 2001 and has sold her sophisticated line at stores worldwide, but she couldn't have chosen a more appropriate neighborhood to give her business the official brick-and-mortar treatment: Her youthful yet luxurious shop has taken its place on Madison Avenue amongst industry icons like Oscar, Ralph and Carolina.
Smith's fearless use of saturated colors and polished prêt-a-porter separates in classic shapes comprise the signature Milly look. Luckily for us, the store will go one step further by showcasing two of Smith's newer ventures: accessories and "Milly Minis" (for ages two to seven).
Looks like there's a new girl on the block and she's certainly giving us something to talk about.
