Don't let the barre fool you: You don't need to be an aspiring ballerina to enjoy a class at Bari Studio, Tribeca's newest fitness hot spot, which opened just a month ago.
Founded by businesswoman-turned-exercise-guru Alexandra Perez, Bari Studio is home to the Bari Practice, Perez's 55-minute high-energy workout regimen ($35 a session) designed to sculpt and elongate (rather than isolate) individual muscle groups.
During our recent test-drive, we were impressed with the variety of toning exercises--suspension-band cardio sequences, Pilates-type mat stints, traditional barre work--which were always challenging, but never impossible (i.e., we were sore the next day, but we could move).
Plus, as Perez was quick to tell us, Bari is more than just a class, it's a lifestyle--as is evidenced by the hip and airy studio where we'd be happy to relax all day amongst the exposed-brick, indoor Zen garden and lovely vats of freshly-brewed kombucha. There are even in-house nutritionists for dietary consultations.
Booked a class but not a babysitter? Bari can help you out there too. With their "Supermom package," kids head downstairs to learn Budokon (a combination of yoga and martial arts) while Mom lifts and lengthens in the main studio.
