As much as we love the romantic possibility online dating affords us (or our single friends), we often wish potential matches didn?t feel like such total strangers.
Enter Coffee Meets Bagel, a new, free NYC-based dating site that leverages actual connections to find suitable mates.
Here?s how it works: You sign up using your Facebook account, then upload a flattering picture and basic profile. The site then searches for matches who fit your requirements (age, location, etc.) and share at least one Facebook friend in common with you. Every day at noon, you?re sent the profile of an eligible suitor, and you can see how many connections you have (though not who they are, unless you earn or pay for special credits).
Say yea or nay to the bloke, and if he also says yes, Coffee Meets Bagel puts you in touch via a secure SMS number. At this point, you?re free to meet for a drink and figure out how on earth you?re connected.
Aside from knowing matches are tangentially in our circle, we like the one-a-day model, which feels less overwhelming than traditional dating sites.
Plus, should you be the mutual friend in question, you can totally take credit for any couple that hits it off.
