Iconic sandal makes a comeback at Bergdorf Goodman
In 1946, shoe designer Bernardo Rudofsky created fashion history--and made lots of women very happy--when he launched his eponymous "footwear without tears" collection. In the 1960s, his creations were on the feet of the world's biggest style setters, including Twiggy and Jane Birkin--Jackie O. was rumored to own his signature, thong sandals in all 16 colors.
Evidently, some things are built to stand the test of time. The label recently reissued 14 of its most iconic sandals at Bergdorf Goodman, in the aptly named collection, Bernardo Vintage Couture. These designs may have been popular 50 years ago, but they look completely at home among this season's footwear.
Each pair has been meticulously recreated from originals and archival photographs. For daytime, we love the Tie Flat, a leather-thong sandal with a wrap-around ankle strap ($195), and the Moon sandal ($225), decorated with adorable appliqué discs. Our pick for evening is the gold Jingle Bell sandal ($295)--the fanciest shoe in the collection--that was photographed for Vogue and Harper's Bazaar in the 1960s.
Shoes can be purchased at Bergdorf Goodman and online at select retailers. This Spring, put your best feet forward.
