A small heel and intricately beaded straps make the Delphine shoe one of Bernson's best newcomers this season. ($209)
With its cute coral hue and wraparound straps, we'll be wearing the Jack sandal all summer long. ($143)
If you want something with a bit more height than a sandal (but that's just as easy to walk in), try the Charlie wedge. ($161)
Back by popular demand, these Parisian-inspired slip-ons are just the right amount of bright for spring. ($169)
As flirtatious as it is functional, the Pique wedge is made from soft, vegetable-dyed leather. ($187)
Made with a soft leather lining, Bernson's ballet flats are some of the most the most comfortable we've worn. ($143)
It's easy to find pretty shoes in this city, but ones we can walk everywhere in? We've had better luck getting a cab on New Year's Eve.
Thankfully, the footwear at designer Matt Bernson's new Tribeca store is both beautiful and blister-proof.
Though the native New Yorker's comfy, affordable sandals are staples at Bergdorf's, Scoop and Madewell, this shop is his first stand-alone venture. With the help of his father, Bernson renovated the 1820s carriage house he now calls a showroom, giving it an at-home feel with antique furniture he refurbished himself. (Another store fixture is the designer's dog, Abraham, who accompanies him to work every day.)
Fresh white shelves are stocked with tribal sandals, structured wedges and bright neon slip-ons. The unusually comfortable Olive Charlie wedge ($161) makes an ideal day-to-night shoe with its gold-flecked cork base, and the yellow patent-leather Gitanes shoe ($169) is a bright departure from beige ballet flats. The best shoe in the place, though, is the exceptionally cool cognac-colored Jack sandal ($143): The padded foot-bed provides extra support while its wraparound studded ankle strap and leather toe ring are understatedly elegant.
Also for sale: a to-die-for selection of vintage sunglasses from Bernson's personal collection.
We're officially ready for summer.
