After six years of supplying supermarket-starved DUMBO with local, organic foods, Foragers City Grocer has an elaborate new Chelsea location. One look at the seasonally driven goods had us ready to forgo the corner food store in favor of farm-fresh greens and free-range chickens.

Eggs--the hen, duck and goose varieties--hail from Raven & Boar and ship within 24 hours of being laid, fennel and butterhead lettuce come from Satur Farms and milk is provided by Hudson Valley Fresh.

An in-house butcher makes fennel sausage, duck confit and cider-brined pork chops, and the sustainable-seafood counter (which adheres to Monterey Bay Aquarium guidelines) sells wild salmon, farm-raised mussels and pole-caught tuna.

Snag small-batch foodstuffs like Sour Puss pickled wax beans, Early Bird granola and Whimsy & Spice coconut cookies, plus big-name provisions like Il Mulino marinara sauce and Balthazar baguettes. Swing by the grab-and-go section for freshly assembled charcuterie boxes, vegetable tartines and Camembert-and-roasted-pear sandwiches.

A soon-to-be-open wine shop will stock organic and biodynamic bottles, and the forthcoming in-store restaurant, Foragers City Table, will have an outside-seating area perfect for taking in a cup of Brooklyn Roasting Company coffee and pumpkin muffins from Blue Sky Bakery.
