We adore New York Fashion Week for the outfits (both on stage and in the front row), the sky-high heels and the runway-surprises.

But the best things to emerge from the shows are trends that are actually wearable. Below, three looks you can wear right now:

Southwest Style Anna Sui, Diane von Furstenberg and Proenza Schouler were all inspired by Santa Fe (DVF even sent her models down the runway in gaucho-hats). Take your wardrobe south of the border with desert color-schemes, as seen in this ModCloth dress ($110), and pieces with terracotta details, like this Anthropologie shirt ($50).

Sophisticated Argyle Thakoon embraced his preppy side with one-shouldered dresses, while Joseph Altuzarra's utility parkas gave his argyle sweaters an urban edge. To get the look now, aim for argyle with a twist. We like this Opening Ceremony cardigan with blue ruffles ($330) and the pop of pink in this Old Navy vest ($15).

Glamour From Donna Karan's collection of structured white dresses (aptly named "Pearls of Wisdom"), to newcomer Prabal Gurung's crimson evening-wear, elegance is back big-time. Go big with a bold color, like the citrus hue of this Matthew Williamson gown ($2,295). Or try a classic black dress with an unexpected element: We love the delicate rosettes in this Adrianna Papell ball gown ($238).
