New resort wear to fight the winter blues
It's cold. It's blustery. It's officially 148 days until summer. Our suggestion: a tropical vacation, of course. Here, two NYC-designed resort lines that will motivate your getaway.
Marysia Swim This Polish-born designer got her start as a dancer before moving to New York to pursue her fashion dreams, and it's easy to see ballet's influence on her 2012 collection: Waists are high and scalloped, and pretty ruffles take a bustline from sexy to sweet. We love the tuxedo-inspired Amalfi top and bottom (each $136) that bring to mind a Slim Aaron photo, as well as the remarkably figure-flattering Kava Maillot ($330)--the invisible underwire offers extra support. Buy Marysia Swim at Barneys New York, 660 Madison Ave. (at 61st St.) or online at marysiaswim.com
Opening Ceremony Owners Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have always infused their New York-based brand with a high-fashion and ethnically diverse feel. Their new resort line is no exception, featuring flowing fabrics, island prints and a vibe that's equal parts South Pacific and Brooklyn chic. We'd pair the balconette one-piece swimsuit ($170) with the scalloped Bermuda shorts ($385) and suede espadrille sandals ($555). A giant floppy hat is optional, though highly recommended. The entire resort line is available at Opening Ceremony, 35 Howard St. (between Broadway and Crosby sts.); 212-219-2688 or openingceremony.us
