A new whole-food cleanse takes the pain out of juicing
If your experiences with juice cleanses are like ours, you start off optimistically with a kale smoothie for breakfast but find yourself flipping through pizza menus by dinnertime.
Not so with Sakara Life, a new whole-food cleanse that's tailored to your lifestyle and the healthy foods you already like to eat. Owners Danielle DuBoise and Whitney Tingle both have certifications in holistic nutrition, and their superfood-packed meals are made with fresh, local ingredients that--dare we say it?--are a pleasure to subsist on.
After a personal consultation about dietary restrictions, food preferences and long-term health goals, the ladies deliver three days' worth of custom breakfasts, lunches and teas to your doorstep ($225). We began with a rolled-oats-and-pecan breakfast bar, followed by a filling chickpea-and-black-bean salad for lunch. Premade dinners are also available, but the cleanses come with a recipe booklet so you can try your hand at healthy cooking.
The meals are mostly vegan and dairy-free, but with options like honey-pumpkin mash, vegetable wraps with cashew pesto and spiced-apple-and-quinoa streusel, you'll never feel deprived.
Finally, a cleanse we can master.
