A real Central Perk pops up in NYC
The orange couch. Phoebe’s mini stage. Gunther. Despite the countless coffee shops in NYC, haven’t you always slightly held out hope that Central Perk was real?
Now it is.
In honor of the Friends 20th anniversary (yes, you first heard the musical genius of “I’ll Be There for You” on September 22, 1994), a pop-up re-creation of the iconic hangout is coming to Soho.
Starting tomorrow, you’ll have a month to ogle authentic costumes, snuggle up on the actual orange couch (selfie-documentation encouraged) and score a free cup of joe from Gunther himself. (Actor James Michael Taylor will make regular appearances.)
The shop will be open daily (weekdays: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; weekends: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.), and given the location (very possible tourist trap), we’d say your best bet is to hit it up before work one day.
Your boss will never know that “out-of-office breakfast” was really a “Smelly Cat” sing-along--well, until you post it to Insta.
