Plop, Plop, Fizz
A new (but retro) lunch counter in the Village
Kale. Chia. Quinoa.
You will find exactly none of these at Hamilton’s Soda Fountain, a nostalgic luncheonette in the West Village.
After you’ve peeled your eyes from the antique ice-cream accoutrements behind the marble counter, you’ll be sucked into the menu of 1940s-style diner classics. Expect hot-pastrami platters, open-face turkey sandwiches (remember gravy?), cottage-cheese-and-fruit salads and whipped-cream-laden sundaes. No frills, just old-school favorites. (In a world overrun with field greens, the iceberg lettuce on our BLT was quite refreshing.)
But the actual reason to make a pit stop here is to enjoy a little something fizzy. From phosphates to lactarts (basically sodas with benefits), all drinks are made fresh--and obviously further improved with a scoop of ice cream dropped in.
Welcome back, Lime Rickeys. You’ve been missed.
