Custom, 3-D-printed earbuds made just for you
The key to any NYC commute: comfort.
For your feet, you buy cushy flats. For your back, you choose specific handbag straps.
For your ears?
Meet Normal, a local company uses 3-D printing to customize earbuds. Nothing like those ubiquitous pieces of plastic that came with your iPhone (and have been popping out ever since), the idea here is soft-to-the-touch pieces specifically tailored to individual cartilage shapes.
Here?s how to get fitted: Stop by the Chelsea storefront studio and someone will snap a photo of the side of your face. (This provides your specific measurements.) You then pick out your preferred color (blue, green, pink, red, yellow, black or gray) and leave the rest up to them.
All products are made right there on site using 3-D printers, which you?ll see lining the walls. And your custom-made ear buds ($199) are available for pickup, or messengering, in as little as 48 hours.
Or if you?d rather do the whole thing from your couch, simply use the foolproof app.
Either way, you?re about to appreciate ?This American Life? in an entirely new way.
