OpenTable now lets you pay for dinner on your phone
You know that glorious feeling of bolting out of an Uber--never once having swiped or signed anything?
That’s how tonight’s dinner could go.
OpenTable (the guys you book reservations through) just released a new feature on its app that allows you to store a credit card, see your bill in real time and pay without ever having to wait for the server.
Here’s how it works: Download the app or update it if you already have it. (The payment feature is only available for iPhones right now, but Android is coming soon.) Make a reservation for dinner and follow the prompts to save your card number.
At any point during your meal, fire up the app to see your check. (“We ordered another bottle of rosé, right?”) Lastly, when you’re ready to leave, just input a tip and slide to pay. Goodbye.
This payment feature is brand new, so it’ll take some time to roll out to all OpenTable-enabled restaurants. However, a decent list of NYC spots are already on board. Client dinner at Smith & Wollensky? Drinks with the girls at Barbounia? Brunch at Café Cluny? All way easier to navigate.
