A new champagne bar with ’40s flare
Set to a swinging soundtrack of Lena Horne and Fats Waller, Winston's Champagne Bar, the newest addition to the ever-chic Gansevoort Park Avenue Hotel, pays homage to all things bubbly and the opulence of a bygone era. In other words, it's pretty much our new favorite date spot.
Winston's deco-influenced bi-level space is accented by a striking yellow baby grand piano, low-hanging bubble chandeliers, plush velvet banquettes and many cozy tables for two.
The menu boasts more than 100 champagnes, which guests are invited to try by the bottle, the glass ($20 to $120) or as a three-champagne flight ($60 to $70). We were most taken, however, with the sparkling cocktails ($22), which run from the classic French 75 to the Strawberry Reims.
The intimate, seductive interior makes Winston's a good pick for romantic meet-ups or sensible post-dinner gatherings. Plus, with a decor and vibe as luxurious as the champagne itself, you can't help but feel as if you've just stumbled into 1940s Paris.
