It’s no secret that when it comes to authentic Chinese food, Queens is king. But knowing exactly which hole-in-the-wall to brave? That’s when recs from foodie friends are key.

We eat a lot. You’re our buddy. So take heed and visit our latest cheap-eats discovery, Tianjin Dumpling House, stat.

Get ready for an adventure: It’s nestled in the basement of the Golden Shopping Mall. But this is far from the suburban food court you're probably imagining. Instead, Golden Mall is a bustling hub of rinky-dink-turned-renowned food stands. (The legendary Xi’an Famous Foods started here.) But Styrofoam-laden atmosphere aside, Tianjin steams some of the most inventive folded dough we’ve ever tasted.

And by “inventive,” we mean “because you’re in charge.” The entire menu is customizable, and there are dozens of ingredients to choose from. Pick three fillers and the staff will roll up your creations on the spot. (Chicken, chive and squash is almost as good as scrambled egg, sausage and cilantro.)

At $5 a dozen (yep, that’s 40 freaking cents a dumpling), we highly encourage experimentation. That and plenty of room in your tote for doggie bags.
