South Street Seaport
Picnic blankets are for the birds.

It?d be the understatement of the year to say the South Street Seaport is in flux. Poor thing has been through a lot and has even more changes to come. (A whole new shopping center will open in 2016.)

But you don?t have to wait for the shiny new Pier 17 to enjoy the neighborhood. A cordoned-off area at the cobblestoned end of Fulton Street has fresh eats, drinks, shops and events to support.

Have a cocktail alfresco. New indoor-outdoor beer garden Ambrose Hall whips up cocktails from small-batch liquors in addition to serving the requisite sausages and summer salads. Or grab a snack from the food-truck court (hiii, Carpe Donut).

Shop for NY-made jewelry. Amble through mural-covered shipping crates, which house pop-up art exhibits and shops from local designers, like Lila Rice.

Watch some movies. Yeah, yeah, there are outdoor screenings all over the city. But do any of them offer hammock-like lounge chairs? And, in our opinion, the best schedule of flicks? From The Perks of Being a Wallflower (June 21) to Pitch Perfect (August 16), it?s legit.

Get a little sweaty. On weekdays from 7 to 8 a.m., Crunch gym hosts open-air workouts. Meet you at the Friday Dance Party?
