Heart and Soul
A retro-fab singer you need to know
Every year, the game is on for “song of the summer.” But doesn’t that moniker always lend itself to some overplayed, polarizing tune à la Miley? If old-soul ladies like Amy Winehouse and Adele are more your jam, we have an exciting newbie to round out your “Rooftop Cocktails” playlist.
Meet Lily Lane.
A wee babe of only 21, Lane, like her aforementioned predecessors, sounds far beyond her years. (Even Adele only just turned 26...sigh.) Expect simple piano chords, bluesy ’50s beats and heartbreak-tinged vocals on her four-song EP Nothin’ but Trouble. (The groovy “I Get High” is on heavy rotation here at PureWow HQ.)
Like what you hear? Stay on the lookout, because you just might catch the NYC-based artist playing a gig around town soon. (She recently performed at DKNY’s Memorial Day event for Ovarian Cancer Research in Wainscott.) But word has it that Lane is focusing primarily on writing more songs for an upcoming full album release.
