Add an extra ounce of femme with a fluted hemline. We dig this look paired with wool tights and knee-high boots.
Tory Burch ($198)
While not for the faint of heart, we love this bright kelly green number. Just add an embellished clutch and strappy sandals to transform into evening attire.
Tailored skirts can work on weekends too. Just wear a slouchy sweater and booties to create a more laid-back look.
When opting for pattern, be sure the print is on the smaller side. A larger pattern is often too overwhelming.
We first introduced you to the midi skirt last summer (no-tights weather...sigh). And while you’ve probably stopped wearing those flouncy styles now that phrases like polar vortex have entered your lexicon, you shouldn’t be resigned to wearing boring wool pants.
Find a happy medium in the latest, more structured iteration of the tea-length skirt. Here’s why we love it:
Easy proportions Unlike the voluminous A-line that limits what you can wear on top (too boxy and you’ll look like a balloon), a tailored midi functions like a pair of skinny jeans--slimmer on the bottom so you have more room to breathe up top. Go for a basic tee, a roomy sweater or even a sporty sweatshirt. A slim turtleneck is our favorite option for winter.
Flattering fit You don’t need legs like Heidi’s to pull this off. The calf-skimming skirt looks great on a petite figure. Tip: The sweet spot for this kind of skirt is just below the knee but before your calf begins. Doesn’t hit there? Hem it.
