Main Dish: Turkey vs. Brisket
Winner: Brisket. Why? Your mother’s turkey is slightly dry. There. We said it.
Potato Product: Mashed Potatoes vs. Potato Latkes
Winner: This one is tricky, but we’re going with latkes, because you can’t really put applesauce on mashed potatoes.
Dessert: Pumpkin Pie vs. Chocolate Gelt
Winner: Pie. Gelt is gross.
Baked Carbohydrate: Stuffing vs. Kugel
Winner: Kugel. We know, we know, your gramsie’s stuffing is the best. But a good noodle kugel is far moister and cakier--and even better two days later.
Costume: Pilgrim vs. Maccabee
Winner: Pilgrims have better collars.
Song: “All Things Bright and Beautiful” vs. “Dreidel, Dreidel, Dreidel”
Winner: “Dreidel.” Duh.
Movie: Planes, Trains and Automobiles vs. Eight Crazy Nights
Winner: John Candy and Steve Martin deserve to win every competition, ever.
After-dinner activity: Passing Out on the Sofa vs. Opening Presents
Winner: Sofa. Both are excellent, but never underestimate the power of the tryptophan-induced slumber.
From pumpkin challah to turkey menorahs, the thing on everybody’s minds is the great comingling of Thanksgiving and Hanukkah (or Thanksgivukkah, if you will).
But here at PureWow, we’re less about cultural unity than we are about good old-fashioned rivalries.
So we decided to pit the holidays against each other!
Check out our Thanksgiving vs. Hanukkah Smackdown to see which one takes the pie cake--and which will bring home the title of best potato product, best after-dinner activity and best overall holiday.
