Frank Sinatra’s Palm Springs Estate (sleeps eight, $2,600/night)
Host to some of Tinseltown’s most legendary parties, this California estate boasts a piano-shaped pool as well as Ol’ Blue Eyes’s original sound and recording system. Bonus points if you can find the chip in one of the bathroom sinks; rumor has it Sinatra made it with a Champagne bottle during an argument with then-wife Ava Gardner.
Richard Branson?s Necker Island (whole island, $42,000/night; individual villa, $27,000/night)
Not into sharing? Neither is bazillionaire Sir Richard Branson, who went ahead and bought an entire island in the British Virgin Islands--which can be yours for one glorious week. (Fear not: Your chances of having to save Kate Winslet from a fire are slim to none.) Activities range from serene (there?s an exhaustive list of spa treatments) to extreme (wind or kite surfing, anyone?), and each of the eight guest rooms has its own private balcony. We call the 1,500-square-foot master suite!
Orson Welles’s Hollywood Estate (sleeps ten, $895/night)
Vacation like royalty in this four-bedroom estate, originally owned by Orson Welles and Rita Hayworth. The best part has to be the view: Vacationers look out over a panorama of Sunset Boulevard.
Christie Brinkley’s Turks and Caicos Estate (sleeps six, from $4,500/night)
Kick back in the blond bombshell’s three-bedroom Turks and Caicos house, located on more than an acre of beachfront property. Guests don’t have to lift a finger at this totally secluded and blissfully relaxing hideaway, thanks to a rotating cast of butlers (we hear Roby is the one to request).
Marilyn Monroe’s Hollywood Hills House (events only, from $6,500)
OK, so you get kicked out at the end of the evening...we still love the idea of renting Marilyn Monroe’s former Hollywood Hills home, which is available for corporate events and parties.
Mick Jagger’s West Indies Villa (sleeps 10, from $16,000/week)
Live like a music legend in the famous front man’s Japanese-inspired beachfront villa on the island of Mustique. The six-bedroom compound comes with six full-time staffers (including a butler and a chef)...meaning you can party like a rock star and somebody will clean up after you.
Jackie O?s Mediterranean Yacht (from $61,000/day)
Not looking for a weeklong affair? Charter the Christina O, Aristotle Onassis?s 325-foot yacht, for the day. Hey, if it was good enough for Jackie O?s wedding...
Stars: They’re just like us! When they’re tired, they sleep. When they’re hungry, they shell peas. When they’re having a bad hair day, they wear a hat. And when they need a little extra income, they rent out their crazy-amazing houses and vacation pads to boring schmoes like us.
Check out these celebrity homes you can actually rent for vacation...and just try not to break any of Christie Brinkley’s stuff while you’re there, OK?
