MAKE IT BRIEF
Briefcases that belong anywhere but the office
We gave a little prayer of thanks when crisp button-downs and tailored trousers became more en vogue than tight skirts and panty hose.
Now we're taking the menswear-for-ladies look one step further with briefcases. These versions may be for guys, but they serve as sleek, sophisticated carryalls for us:
Serapian's butter-soft leather flap briefcase ($1,550) is a gorgeous upgrade from a tired tote. The adjustable shoulder strap allows this bag to function like a purse, and two zippered pockets are ideal for stowing books, makeup or travel documents.
Nobody mixes masculine classics with feminine staples quite like J.Crew. This handsome military-style Montague satchel ($298) is a shining example of how an item designed for men can feel like it's made for us.
Brooks Brothers is known for its classic men's shirts and ties, but we can't help falling in love with the clothier's black alligator billfold briefcase ($6,500). The price tag is steep, but this refined number is eternally chic.
Brit brand Mulberry first hit the scene in the '70s with its safari-inspired poacher bags. Today, the design house continues its tradition of luxe leather accessories with its chocolate-brown men's Elkington briefcase ($930). Personally, we're wild for it.
