In the world of high fashion, Karl Lagerfeld already is the king of cool. So when we heard the groundbreaking designer was producing a cash-conscious collaboration with Macy's for its upscale Impulse department (home of cutting-edge brands like Free People, Seven and French Connection), our fall fashion forecast called for a shower of chic.

Lagerfeld, who designs an eponymous line while also serving as the creative director for Fendi and Chanel, has imbued this 36-piece collection with his signature rebel-meets-royal style: T-shirts emblazoned with his profile, twill and tailored suiting and structured dresses with rock-and-roll detailing.

The most impressive pieces in the Impulse line are those that directly correlate to Lagerfeld's runway oeuvre. For example, this pink rounded-collar shift ($99) is a demure take on this navy number from Fendi fall 2011. We also love how the lace in this knit top ($79) reminds us of Chanel's sophisticated fall 2011 jumper. For an ultrapolished look, try this Coco-inspired black-and-white tuxedo dress ($139) that blocks color in a similar respect to this Chanel resort 2012 suit.

Lagerfeld for Impulse is currently available in 235 Macy's stores nationwide and at macys.com. Who knew mass market could be so haute?
