Yes, black and white flooded the spring 2013 runways. But honestly, isn?t that duo always in vogue?
For the third edition of our Spring Trends 2013 Guide, we?re looking on the bright side of color blocking. Here are spring?s strongest pieces--both in the stores and in your wardrobe.
One-Hit Wonders While the color-blocking trend has been a retail darling for a couple of years now, we?re getting knocked over the head with bigger, bolder blocks of color in 2013. Snag a ready-made look with Anthropologie?s Brightblock shift ($118), Ted Baker?s tricolor midi skirt ($148) or J.Crew?s silk blouse ($198).
In Your Closet Much like selecting paint chips, color blocking works best when you can visualize what hues pair well together. Take solid pieces you already own, then experiment by trying fresh combinations?say, orangey red and hot pink (like this Banana Republic skirt, $90, and DVF top, $297) or bright blue and mustard yellow (such as these Calvin Klein pants in cobalt, $70, and this Zara sweater, $60).
Small Statements Still apprehensive? Instead of a head-to-toe ensemble, try a color-blocked accessory. Loeffler Randall?s strappy sandals ($295) just scream spring, while Reed Krakoff?s leather tote ($1,090) is the handbag of our dreams.
