A do-it-yourself gel manicure kit
Gel manicures are undoubtedly awesome in terms of looking flawless for weeks. Too bad they cost a pretty penny and require professional removal.
Luckily, we’ve discovered the Lomasi Mani-Pedi Kit, an easier, less expensive alternative to salon treatments.
The Lomasi DIY kit ($85) comes with everything you need (base gel, color, nail buff, curing light, etc.) to create at-home gel manicures or pedicures in five simple steps. Seriously: We are hardly aestheticians and we were able to do this ourselves at our kitchen table--though there’s also no shame in asking a friend for help.
The process starts with the basics: Push back the cuticles, file the nails. Then, one hand at a time (they warn you not to do all 10 fingers at once), apply the base coat, color (the kit comes with “Sincerity,” a soft beige shade, though you can buy additional colors for $12 each) and top coat.
Between each coat, cure the polish for one minute under the UV light machine, which seals the gel and prevents chipping for up to two weeks (four weeks for a pedi). And voilà: a professional look, sans salon.
