Although we appreciate the convenient portability of e-books, we're not ready to give up hard covers. Luckily, these Etsy shops have found ways to stylishly recycle old tomes:

Simple Joys Paperie Combining her passion for reading with a love of individual style, artist Lana Manis created Simple Joys Paperie, where she sells gorgeous jewelry and home decor made from discarded books. We love her bracelets ($42), crafted from the spines of vintage French dictionaries, as well as her intricate paper wreaths ($50), constructed from pages of old books.

Hoakon + Helga At first glance, Hoakon + Helga's vintage book clutches ($68) don't look like more than a collector's item. But unbuckle the leather belt running across the center and you'll find a modern handbag made to hold all your essentials. We'd also use this clever carryall as a jewelry box.

Engrained These 35-millimeter pinhole cameras ($220) may be the coolest new use for an old book we've seen. The artist, Erin Paysse, has a background in architecture--which explains the meticulous attention to detail in her creations. Each camera is crafted from a vintage hardcover and, for inspiration, comes with a sampling of prints Paysse has taken. Use it to take unique pictures, or gift it to a photography lover.
