We already have a pretty great summer wardrobe (all hail the eternally flattering maxi dress), but we're always looking for ways to make it fresh. This year's opportunity comes courtesy of J. Crew and Lilly Pulitzer design alum Alexandra Thompson.
Thompson's just-launched line, Persifor, pairs her polished, preppy background with a carefree, beachy sensibility (think breathable, stretchy sundresses and bright, kicky prints). The debut season's inspiration is South and Central America, though the jaguar and bolero patterns would look just as good on the Cape as they would in Cozumel.
Indeed, Persifor's versatility is perhaps its most appealing feature. Throw the scoop-necked, swizzle-stick-patterned Smitty dress ($188) over a bathing suit, or pair it with gold sandals and a blazer for an evening-appropriate ensemble. The one-shouldered Haist ($198) is equally multifunctional: sexy with an updo and heels, demure with a cardigan and a pair of Keds.
Currently, Thompson offers just four silhouettes in a multitude of prints (all made from a blissfully washable polyamide/elastane blend), but we're looking forward to more styles and accessories in subsequent collections.
Speaking of accessories, did we mention the Morelia Metallic Cork Tote ($198)? It basically encapsulates Thompson's entire aesthetic: breezy and functional with just a hint of glitz.
