Classic footwear gets a designer upgrade
If you wouldn't be caught dead in sneakers outside of the gym, it's time to reconsider taking those kicks to the streets. The shoes best reserved for treadmills have gotten a serious designer upgrade with glitter, leather and metallic touches that you'll want to sport all over town.
High-tops The classic Chuck Taylor is getting a run for its money with high-tops in futuristic designs. Take your pick of these Space Odyssey-inspired denim sneakers ($600) from Raf Simons or these more conservative, straightforward white ones from ASOS ($54). Our pick is this Giuseppe Zanotti pair ($850), which strikes a stunning balance between girlie and grunge with blushed leather and metallic studs.
Lace-ups Ladylike flourishes are transforming otherwise basic lace-ups into superfancy footwear. Grosgrain ribbons give Lanvin's metallic moccasin ($695) the look of a modern ballet shoe, while Miu Miu's champagne-hued sneakers ($495) sparkle at the toes. Prada's white oxfords ($690) aren't exactly practical, but the beautiful brogue details make them nice enough for nighttime events--and a much comfier alternative to heels.
