Cobra Society's tall boots ($920) pay homage to all things Navajo.
This briefcase ($219) mixes business with pleasure.
Vintage kilim combat boots ($165) pair the Southwest and '90s trends nicely.
A simple clutch ($225) keeps the look ladylike.
A rucksack from the '70s ($168) is a rare and welcome find.
Much like Scarlett O'Hara and Lady Gaga, we regularly draw fashion inspiration from unlikely fabrics. Our newest such obsession, kilim, is the stuff of traditional Persian tapestries--but reimagined for a 21st-century wardrobe that's a little bit Southwest-boho and a little bit Eastern-chic.
Shoes We're absolutely obsessed with Dutch company Kiboots' colorful handmade boots ($230), which are crafted from vintage kilim rugs and leather for a look that appeals to hippies and hipsters alike. We'd pair this orange striped pair with a denim skirt and sensible, solid-color blouse. Along the same lines are Free People's Caballero Tall Boots ($498)--they have a Spanish, regal flair--and Cobra Society's fold-over version ($795), which tone down the busyness with soft, neutral hues. Not really a boot person? Try an ankle-height clog ($410) or prim and pretty loafer ($90).
Bags While we love XoBruno's muted totes and clutches ($165), which are made in Portland from Turkish woven wool, our pick for most portable Kilim accessories goes to LA designer Tylie Malibu's funky, oversized purses. This drawstring bucket bag ($415), for instance, has us longing for a fringe, leather jacket and pair of faded Levis.
