You may not associate awards shows with philanthropy. But now there's one devoted to doing good on the local level.
Here's how it works: Through December 8 you can visit the Chase Community Giving Facebook page to vote for your favorite charity. $2 million is up for grabs, and your vote helps decide how it gets allocated.
Then you tune into the American Giving Awards presented by Chase on December 10 on NBC 8/7c to learn the results of the voting.
Hosted by 22-time Emmy Award-winner Bob Costas, the American Giving Awards will pay tribute to five worthy charities you might not know yet but will definitely want to learn more about: Let's Get Ready expands college access for low-income students; The Matthew Shepard Foundation provides resources for LGBT youth; Move for Hunger helps get food to needy food banks; To Write Love on Her Arms facilitates help for people struggling with depression, addiction and self-injury; and the Wish Upon a Hero Foundation raises funds for Americans in need.
Watch the awards show at 8/7c on Saturday, December 10, on NBC, and don't forget to vote for your favorite charity by December 8.
Not a bad way to play philanthropist for a day.
