THAT’S A WRAP
Update your winter wardrobe with cloaks and capes
We wouldn't normally take our fashion cues from Superman and Harry Potter, but these supernaturally gifted guys were on to something with their choice of outerwear. Capes and cloaks are flattering, stylish counterparts to drab puffy coats. These options have a magic all their own:
Cloaks These sartorial security blankets mask winter's chill with hoods and voluminous silhouettes. The cloak designer du jour is Lindsey Thornburg, who unveiled her first collection of tribal cloaks--inspired by a trip to Machu Picchu--in 2007. Crafted from wool with silk linings, Thornburg's polished creations have a touch of mystery. We're coveting this urban Little Red Riding Hood number ($1,200) and the spectacular, caramel-colored alpaca version ($1,200).
Capes A ladylike twist on the cloak that fastens in front, capes are perfect for daytime walks and make beautiful accompaniments to evening wear. Zara makes one that only looks like it costs a million bucks. The retailer's Fantasy poncho ($129) is just that, with soft wool details that render it cozy and classic. We also love this preppy plaid version from Robbi & Nikki ($225) and French Connection's classic military rendition ($162).
