Small monthly subscription fees are increasingly becoming the way of the world: $9 for Spotify, $8 for Netflix, $10 for Birchbox. So why not add a charity component to the mix?
That’s the idea behind CharitySub, a new company that helps you parse your worthy giving throughout the year.
Sign up for CharitySub, and each month your credit card will be billed $5, which you’ll have the choice of donating to one of three organizations focused on a specific cause. November’s cause, for instance, is Down syndrome, and the selected charities range from a foundation that funds DS research to an advocacy and adoption fund-raising organization that assists children with special needs.
Past causes include HIV, domestic abuse and Oklahoma tornado aid--and our fingers are crossed for a Philippines relief effort come December.
Particularly as the holiday season approaches, we love the idea of a donation that will do good every single month (and not just during the Salvation Army Santa portion of the year--a common complaint among needy organizations).
Consider it the service charge you should have no qualms about accepting.
