The local Francophile fashion cult nearly lost its mind last year when Isabel Marant opened a shop on Melrose. Granted, we love her as much as the next tomboy stylist, but we prefer to spend less than $360 on a sweatshirt. (Which is the sale price, btw.)
So let’s lift a glass of bubbly (an inexpensive glass of Prosecco, to be exact) to Maje, the new boutique that’s arrived at the Beverly Center. The brand has similar elements to the Marant we love--slouchy tees, bulky sweaters, skinny pants.
But Maje’s most striking selling point is that it offers “I just rolled out of bed” chic for less. A cropped knit jacket ($280) works with a pencil skirt or jeans, a 30 percent savings over a similarly cut Marant number. Cost aside, we like how wearing Maje makes us feel: sexy as hell in this LBD ($272), fashion-forward yet comfy in this sweater ($168) and be still our hearts in this glam cape ($495).
True, you won’t find any of those polarizing wedge sneakers at Maje, but you’ll experience that casual chic the French have pioneered--call it sloblime, non?--for great prices.
